DUBLIN .- The Queen Elizabeth II Tuesday starred in one of the most significant events of his historic visit Ireland four days to deposit a wreath at the monument honoring the fallen Irish in the cause of national freedom.

In the Garden of Remembrance, Parnell Square in the downtown, the monarch was accompanied by the country's President, Mary McAleese and Minister of Justice, Interior and Defence, Alan Shatter.

During the solemn ceremony, they heard the national anthems of both countries and was silent for Irish Republicans who fought against British.

walkabouts were not for the monarch who is accompanied by her husband Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, given the strict security measures imposed by the Irish police around the square, completely isolated to avoid the protests that unfolded in the vicinity arrived to the ears of the queen.

it happens, the offices of Sinn Fein, political wing of the old and inactive Irish Republican Army (IRA), are just behind the Garden, a situation that took members of the formation to release black balloons into the sky to protest the visit of Elizabeth II.

This is the first visit by a British head of state to the Republic since the country gained independence in 1921, a gesture intended to demonstrate the normalization of relations between the two as a result the peace process in Northern Ireland.
