ARUSHA .- The International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) on Tuesday sentenced the former chief of staff of the Rwandan army Augustin Bizimungu to 30 years in prison after being convicted of "crime of genocide. "
General Bizimungu took over as head of the Rwandan army on April 16, 1994, in the genocide.
For his part, former chief of staff of the gendarmerie, General Augustin Ndindiliyimana, was sentenced to "a penalty equal to the time he was jailed since his arrest."
The other two senior officers charged in this process were sentenced to 20 years in prison.
